Archives Leadership Institute July 18 – 24, 2010 Call for Applications The University of Wisconsin – Madison is pleased to announce the 2010 leadership institute for archives professionals. The week-long event will feature presentations by dynamic people in the archival field and relevant leaders outside the profession. The goal of the project is to examine the leadership needs of the archives profession and to prepare participants to influence policy and effect change on behalf of the profession (and ultimately, on behalf the public served now and in the future.) The program is directed primarily at mid-level to senior staff --archivists who aspire to leadership roles in their organizations and/or professional associations. New England Archivists (NEA) will host its semi-annual meeting at UMass Boston on November 6-7, 2009 with the theme "Appraisal: New Ideas, New Media, and Old Successes." Featuring sessions on appraisal from many different angles, including appraisal of physical objects, electronic records, monetary appraisal, when to appraise, appraisal outreach, reappraisal and deaccessioning and more, the meeting will include a keynote speech from Richard Cox of the University of Pittsburgh on "Arguing About Appraisal: From Hilary to Helen and Beyond."
Friday, November 6, will include a half-day workshop, "Living to Fight Another Day: Basic Stabilization Techniques for Digital Accessions," and the popular full-day workshop on "Arrangement and Description." In addition, tours of the John F. Kennedy Library Archives and the Massachusetts State Archives will be offered, topped off with an evening reception at the JFK.
The keynote speech and all sessions will take place on Saturday, November 7, at the UMass Boston Campus Center. The meeting registration fee is $65.00 for NEA members and $95 for non-NEA members (which includes a year's membership in NEA) and covers all tours and the evening reception on Friday, and all sessions plus a continental breakfast, lunch and an afternoon reception on Saturday.
